Wild Wisdom: Julia Haines

Sounding in the Woods: The Mystery/Thunder: Perfect Mind

Julia will present two signature compositions: The Mystery, the ancient Celtic poem calling in elemental energies of the Beloved, which she won First Prize for Harp and Voice at the O’Carolan Festival in Ireland, and Thunder: Perfect Mind, a text from the Nag Hammadi Library (circa 350 BCE) invoking the Feminine Divine, celebrating paradox, contradiction and passion, calling in the spirit of One who unites all opposites.

A “harper among harpists” by the Irish press, Haines has developed a unique approach to the lever harp, weaving together traditional, classical, improvisational, experimental and contemporary influences to create a radiant music for the harp.

She has recorded with Pauline Oliveros, Tommy Hayes, The Roots, Sue Pilla, Susan Werner, Laura Simms, Kay Gardner and Ubaka Hill.
